Dogfish Head and Woolrich’s co-branded beer, Pennsylvania Tuxedo, is back!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, Pennsylvania Tuxedo is a spruce-infused pale ale whose name pays homage to the red and black plaid wool outfits traditionally worn by hunters in the deep woods of Pennsylvania.
This is the third year of this special release, and it has quickly become a seasonal favorite of beer lovers all across the country. In fact, last years stock sold out in a matter of weeks, so it was time to step up our game this year in order to meet the growing demand.
“It was no small feat to more than double the amount of spruce needed for this latest batch. We shut down the mill for a few days during harvest, rolled up our sleeves and went to work,” said Nick Brayton, President of Woolrich.
And that’s what makes this beer so special. Woolrich had an actual hand in making it…a true collaboration.
In the end, more than 1,500 pounds of fresh, new-growth spruce tips were hand-picked from the forests that surround the Woolrich mill in central Pennsylvania by our employees, family and friends. The result is a delicious ale with a dry yet doughy malt backbone that lets the hops and spruce shine while still balancing out the bitterness.
