Conservation, like charity, begins at home. At Woolrich, we take the stewardship of nature in our home state of Pennsylvania seriously.
This state has been our home since the company began in 1830, and designing and manufacturing clothing for the outdoors has been our
mission. We love the woods and waters of our state and hope to do what we can to see that they are preserved.
The Pennsylvania Institute for Conservation Education was created to provide an educational forum for people to connect with nature.
It believes that education is the fundamental (but often missing) link to conserving biological diversity and protecting ecological
integrity. Over time, the most lasting imprint will be made because people believe in the need to leave a legacy that includes healthy
wildlife populations, functioning ecosystems, vibrant economies based on resource management, and a place to go to enjoy the outdoors.
Through direct learning experiences, the Institute's goal is to actively engage individuals in the conservation and stewardship of
the natural environment that sustains our communities. Through arts, literature, history, and sciences, the Institute inspires people
to discover, enjoy, appreciate, and protect the wildlife, fields, rivers, lakeshores, forests, and wild landscapes of Pennsylvania ecosystems.
Founded in 2002, the Institute is a nonprofit organization that encourages hands-on discovery of ecosystems and watersheds of the
Commonwealth, while instilling stewardship of our natural resources. It serves students of all ages and regions by providing natural
history seminars, teacher education, youth and school programs, conservation internships, expeditions, and custom programs for
organized groups. Instructors in the various programs include highly qualified biologists, botanists, ecologists, geologists,
entomologists, wildlife photographers, authors, educators, and other professionals who deal with the natural world.
