In 1978, Congress designated the Continental Divide Trail as a National Scenic Trail. Also known as the King of Trails, this route is a 3,100-mile backcountry trail from Canada to Mexico along the backbone of America. It accesses some of the most wild and scenic places left in the world while conserving the environment and promoting personal well being.

Approximately 70 percent of the trail is usable. However, many of those miles are in desperate need of repair, rerouting for sustainability, or removed from roads and motorized trails.

The Continental Divide Trail Alliance (CDTA) is a group of dedicated conservation-minded outdoor enthusiasts, committed to seeing the Continental Divide Trail through to its full completion, to its last charted mile, and to the continued care of this great natural wonder for future generations.

Since 1995, the Continental Divide Trail Alliance has played a central role in the completion, management, and protection of the trail. Woolrich is pleased to join this dedicated group as a corporate sponsor. In the fall of 2006, Woolrich donated fleece jackets to the Continental Divide Trail Alliance during its recent TrailFest event. The jackets helped CDTA recognize and thank the volunteers who led trips during CDTA's annual celebration.

"On behalf of everyone at Woolrich, we are proud and pleased to extend to the TrailFest trip leaders this token as a thank you for their time and dedication to CDTA. CDTA is one of the cornerstones in the Woolrich conservation initiative," said Tim Joseph, Woolrich, director of marketing and media.

The 2006 edition of TrailFest was the largest celebration of the trail ever and marked the largest number of hikers and mountain bikers to get out on the trail in one day. From base camp in Buena Vista, Colorado, near the rugged Collegiate Peaks and some of the Continental Divide Trail's most popular sections, trekkers could choose from more than a dozen different trips--hikes, mountain bike rides, a pontoon boat ride, even treks with llamas and goats packing lunch.

According to CDTA Co-Executive Director Paula Ward, "TrailFest truly represents our intention to connect people to the land and each other along the Continental Divide Trail."
