Mountain Parka
By Jim
from Clarksboro NJ
My wife had this coat 20 yrs ago and wore it out. Guess that is to be expected in 20 yrs.Over time they changed their sizing and the coat is a little shorter and basically a size smaller than she had then. Still seems to have most of the good features

Great quality

About Me Trendy/Stylish Dresser
This was my option for a raincoat that is trendy but will work for most situations. However, I am 5'8" and slender, and the small was much too large. The sleeves are long and widely cut and I have opted to exchange for an XS. Everything else about the coat is great. I can't wait to get the XS in the mail!

Exactly what I was looking for!
By Leslie
from Dallas, Texas
I was looking for a basic jacket with a hood and this one is perfect. It's not always easy to find a coat with so many features & I especially like the longer length. It's not for spending a long time in very cold temps but just right for running around town. I couldn't be more pleased.

Not for pear-shaped women
By KellyO
from Battle Ground, WA
Even though I checked the measurements (even caling), the fit was not what I had hoped for. As a "pear shaped" XXL, this was small even at the chest and definitely through hips. Looked like a nice coat, too bad I had to send it back.

Women's Mountain Parka not the same
By Jody the Skiier
from Denver CO
Bought a Women's Mountain Parka 25 years ago from Woolrich, and it has just begun to wear. I was trying to replace the coat, but the cut of the new coat is different. The pockets are too low, it's tighter through the bust and hips. My kids are tired of my coat I have been wearing their whole lives, but it is much more comfortable, so I returned the new coat, and will continue to wear the old one. If you go back and use the styling from the Women's Mountain Parka from the early 1980's please let me know! I'd love to be wearing a new color!

because your sizes changed from 14 to 16, I had to order a xl so the sleeves are a bit long, but I still like the jacket

I had one of these back in the 80's. It travelled to Israel with me. Perfect for any weather. Wore it for more than 10 years and then it was my cat's favorite bed! Will get another when this one wears out....if I live so long. Am 73 now! .....Will probably get another!!

I was disappointed
By Mary
from Muskegon, Michigan
I supervise an elementary school playground on the edges of northern Michigan near Lake Michigan, so I am outside in some brutally cold, windy weather. The Woolrich mountain parka that I received as a gift more than 15 years ago has worked very well for me with layers underneath. Although it wasn't super warm by itself, I was happy to go to the trouble of layering because its features were just what I needed: wide cuffs that easily slipped over bulky gloves and then easily cinched nice and tightly with velcro (in charge of recess whistles, I check my wrist watch often); a wool-lined hood that stayed on in those gusts of wind; water-repellent outer fabric that kept me dry on those snowy-but-almost-rainy days. Although it was getting pretty ratty, I hesitated to get a new jacket because that one worked well. But I finally broke down. I ordered the same jacket I had. But it wasn't the same! The wool lining was as thin as a flannel shirt, even thinner than some flannel I've seen! My more-than-15-year-old jacket's lining (after countless washings) was more than twice as thick as the brand new lining. I knew the new one was just not going to work for me, so I returned it. Returning it was easy, but it's going to cost me about $8.00 when it's deducted from the refund on my credit card. I'm not happy about that either. I wish I had paid attention to the reviews in this site, many of which were negative. I just didn't want to believe them because I had been so happy with my other jacket. I have now purchased a different brand which doesn't have the features I liked about the Woolrich parka, but at least I'm warm. Woolrich should go back to quality materials.

NOT a winter jacket!

This might be a great autumn coat, but definitely not for a cold winter. Great features and fit, but I returned it.

Exactly what I had hoped for!
By Jeannebean
from New Berlin,Wisconsin
I bought this same jacket 20 years ago and loved wearing it! When I saw that Woolrich was bringing it back I was thrilled! The fit is true to size, and lightweight but plenty warm for our Wisconsin weather. The lining is 80% wool which is wonderfully warm and soft, and I love the fabric on the outside for its wind and water resistance. The quality- from the tapered velcro fasteners on the sleeves to the zippered and snapped front closers and a hood that looks and fits perfectly make it an all around favorite of mine!

5 Gold Stars!
By RedsQMee
from Claremont, CA
This parka is a Long-sought replacement for a much-loved 10-year old Not-Woolrich parka, now retired. I am tall, a size 12 and the fit is great. Sleeves long enough, room for another layer when I travel north, but just the right weight for home. Ordered the black; the buffalo plaid is a wonderful touch. Thank you, Woolrich!

Good looking, versatile and durable
By Adventurer
I bought this at the Woolrich, PA store so had the chance to try before I bought. The black with the buffalo check just took my eye. Wh3en worn with a down or wool vest, it can be a three-season jacket.

I love this jacket!
By Calycanthus
from Suburban Philadelphia
I bought this jacket last January knowing that I would have to get the sleeves shortened; I wish it had been available in petite. Shortening the sleeves has diminished the good design of the velcro-closing cuffs, but they're still functional. Other than that, this jacket is everything I had hoped for and has quickly become a favorite. Great wind protection, layers well, very sturdy. I like the retro design, too (and I'm old enough to remember when snaps on the front of a jacket weren't considered retro). What is not retro is the fact that the fabric breathes.

Poor choice of lining material
By Ash
from Oklahoma
Looking at the sizing chart, I found my chest measurement on the border between large and small. After reading reviews it seemed this coat runs small so I ordered the large. For reference I'm large-busted and usually wear a size 10-12, and the large was too big for me. I'm right on the edge of petite height-wise, so I'm used to size issues. Maybe other folks like a baggier fit, but my instinct was to go with medium so I would call it true to size. The sleeves were long but again, I'm on the short side. Most surprising was how rough the lining was. Wool is really not a comfortable material against the skin. Even if the jacket fit I would send it back because it's unwearably scratchy. They really ought to switch to flannel. It also has a strange smell that I've noticed from other Chinese-made wool coats I've encountered. Can't tell how warm it would be, but it seems very thin. The leather strip that holds the toggle inside... maybe I'm not clear on how it's supposed to operate but it doesn't really keep the jacket cinched and I had to tie the elastic to accomplish that. I'd prefer cordlock toggles. Also, my personal preference is for metal zippers; plastic just feels cheaper to me. Now I'm waiting for the standard women's parka to arrive in a smaller size and I'm hoping the lining won't be as itchy as with this coat. Maybe it softens when washed, but I can't risk losing the ability to send it back if it doesn't work.
Great Jacket, can not have too many!

Unhappy--disappointed
By seeking warmth
from West Hartford, CT
I was very disappointed. It seemed way too thin, sleeves were too long, the lining seemed cheap, and the zipper kept getting stuck. This is my 1st Woolrich mailorder purchase. I guess I should stick to the stores.I am looking for a winter coat with loads of pockets, warm and substantial, with a good zipper. This was not it.
Best All-Weather Jacket Ever!
By Cruzie
from Alhambra, CA
I'm 5'2", 135 and usually get Petite 10/12 because my arm length is short but got this in a Regular Large. Why? With velcro, you can adjust the sleeves and pull the inside elastic waist cords to make the jacket fitted to your body. I can wear a base layer, and flannel shirt and comfortably wear this jacket when it drizzles or lightly rains (hood) or just for warmth. Personally, I love the large pockets inside and out! This jacket is versatile, functional yet stylish. The pockets will accommodate all that a woman carries in a medium-sized purse including a cell phone. So, leave your purse at home! I love having my hands free! Check the sizing chart because it will help you decide what size will suit you. I wish I had a closet entirely full of Woolrich clothing!

GREAT coat but USED to be a better fit!
By Suzanne
from Holden, MA
I LOVE the jacket and the color and have had them years ago. BUT the different long and tight sleeves make it a bit uncomfortable. HOWEVER, I will not return it and deal with it, because I believe the next size up will only make the situation WORSE!!! Too bad [*].... someone's just not getting it the way you USED to make them fit!!!!! This is an XL, and except for the tight and too long sleeves, it would be just fine. I also saw on other reviews that others had the same sleeve complaints. Because it's a jacket that I WON'T be wearing in the dead of winter, I'll be keeping it. Otherwise it would be too uncomfortably tight in the sleeves with heavy clothing on.
Coat a Full Size too SMALL.
By ARTHORSES
from Shenandoah Valley, Virginia
I always wear 12-14 clothes, and the size Large, which I always order in coats, was too small through the chest and back/shoulders. I sent it back, got an X Large, and it fits fine (though the sleeves are a bit long. I have short arms.) Feels more like a fall/spring coat, not winter. Great for a lined raincoat, and I like the hood and snapped front. I plan to wear it on a trip to Ireland . Wouldn't fit well with a bulky sweater, but perfect for light layers. The coat fit much more like Medium. ORDER ONE SIZE UP. Easy to return and exchange. Pleased with service.

It is just like the one I bought 25 years ago. whiich still looks like new. I thought since it was on sale, I would treat myself to a new one.My old one is now too large but I shall still wear it as I love it.I would definitely buy it if did not run so large. It is the best looking one anyplace.Really like Woolrich

Good Qua;ity
By Traveler

Good fit except the arms are a little long. I am tall and heavy; it's unusual to find arms long enough let alone too long. It's roomy enough for layers underneath but not tent-like. I use it for a cool season rain parka.
Just like I remember!
By Love my Boys
from Saint John, NB
These jackets are just like I remember. I had one 20yrs ago and still could not get it off my mind. I was so happy to find they are still available. The fit is perfect and I love the color even more in person (blue is a little darker than picture). I only wish they were a little warmer for the cold Canadian winter days.
sleeves too long
By agentpat

I will take to tailor to get estimate to shorten sleeves -- if this can't be done reasonably I will return the coat. I can't believe Woolrich didn't catch this and fix it prior to sale.

With smart layering, this parka will get me through most of the year in a rather cold climate.
