Ordered wondering about the 'princess' shape which I do not like. I ordered a size large after reading reviews on- line. I was concerned that the fit in the shoulders would be off with a larger size but this is not the case. I probably could have gone with an extra large, because I don't think I can wear this over a bulky sweater. I am 5'3" with a bit of a tummy ( though I am not overweight, just have that older figure thing going on) . The large is OK, sleeves are a good length, not too long, but I wish they were a bit wider, again, can't get this over a bulky sweater. I got the blue/ green which is beautiful but definitely not as bright as the photo on- line ( I was hoping it would be brighter colors) , I guess you could say it's a subdued ombré. The pockets are deep, wish it had patch pockets instead; there is one inside pocket, deep but not wide. It would look good with jeans, cords, even khakis, as well as dress pants, probably knits but not anything dressier. The buttons/ buttonholes are secure and easy to use, ie not too tight or loose. I don't find that the wool itches. As far as the seams being 'finished' , they are sewn with an overlapping stitch , I was hoping they would be covered with tape or have an overlapping French seam but it's OK for this type of style. I suppose a tailor could put in a lining, but in that case you'd better get a size larger. I would not have paid full price, but I do think the sale price was worth it, because of the thickness and quality of the wool. Now to find a brimmed hat to wear with it! I may order the 2 nd color, would be good for Fall.Note: I stated runs true to size - that is because of the princess seams, but also stated runs small, because I would suggest you check the size charts , because if you aren't slim enough for this shape, I'd recommend you size up.

Exceeds expectations
By Alicia

I ordered the pine-toned version and the colors are more muted than the on-line photo appeared to me. It's very attractive and the mutedness makes it more versatile for somewhat dressier situations, as opposed to only the outdoor activities and strictly casual wear that I expected.

I would buy this product again

This jacket is true to size. I am 5 ft. tall and weight 90 lbs. The jacket (size XS) fits perfectly. The sleeves are about an inch too long, but that's nothing unusual for the clothes I purchase. I would recommend this jacket to my friends and relatives.

Would buy again!

Like everything about this jacket, weight, color, versatility, comfort, warmth. Only objection is that without a lining it does not slide on when wearing certain types of fabric underneath...but, will put up with that!It is my new "go-to" jacket for just about everything. Warm without being bulky and heavy. Will have to switch soon to heavier outdoor apparel but have enjoyed wearing this one in the meantime. Great for fall weather in colder climates. Love the colors. Bought the dark pine. Would even work for indoor wear where you would need extra warmth. Am considering purchasing the other color available.

Jacket from heaven!

About Me Trendy/Stylish Dresser
This jacket should get 10 stars, not just five. It's very warm, but it breathes and lets a little wind through. It goes from being very casual (dog walking, hiking in wooded areas, esp. in crisp fall weather) to being formal enough for a business meeting or presentation before an audience, depending on whatever else you're wearing. Whether it's a silk scarf, heels, and skirt to jeans/boots and a casual scarf/muffler and warm hat, this jacket is beautiful and works well. The dark multi-color version goes with everything! Hot magentas/oranges/neon chartreuses/neon ultramarine blues and turquoises, through the midrange-bright accents in the same hues (i.e. tomato/coral accents, Lakota turquoises, and sunshine yellows) to the traditional primary red-yellow-blue tones and hues. From pinks - baby blues and lavenders to the dark navy/maroon/bottle greens. Even grays. It even goes with most styles, ranging from classical/traditional/formal to western, sleek-streamlined-modern, to the whole back-to-tribal/Native American look. Totally versatile. You can either match or contrast effectively in terms of color. It looks boxy in the photo. Don't be fooled. While being generously cut (I'm usually a large and am a 41-DD on top) I'm only 5'5.5" tall and I have proportionately short arms and legs (maybe you could say I'm slightly long waisted). [I tend to wear heels a lot to add a bit of length to the bottom so I don't look long waisted) Even so, I can wear a medium in this style. It is figure flattering, making the most of an hourglass waist. It looks feminine even though it has a "rugged" outward appearance. You can see that I have a tapered waist when I wear it, but it isn't tawdry or clingy and is 100 percent wool. Not anything "Spandex-y." I get compliments galore whenever I wear it. It hides my few added pounds around my waist and camouflages a bit of a little belly, too! There's room for a vest if you want to wear one underneath. Or a thinner or non-bulky cardigan, as well. (That's because the wool is "giving" and naturally somewhat flexible.) Though it's doubtful you'd NEED to layer it most fall days since it can create a lot of warmth. You *could* put small (tasteful) diamond earrings with it, but glitz is one look I'd play down. It might not t go so well with a silver-and-rhinestone belt, but you could even ramp up that look if you overwhelmed the jacket with glitz everywhere else. Doing that would require the imagination of a real clothing professional stylist, I think, but you could pull it off with some imagination and creativity (I haven't risen to the occasion on that one, though, so cannot personally recommend it).I went on a walking tour of Harvard in it during cold weather with drizzle.... was in and out of buildings, and carrying an umbrella, big purse, and heavy camera and gear. Weather in the high 40s/low 50s with wind. It kept me warm outside and was NOT too hot indoors in heated buildings. I never had to take it off -- never hot and stuffy. Never cold outside! I love NOT having to carry around my jacket indoors! And wearing this good quality trim-and-tailored wool creates a more professional look (if you accessorize that way), not the "arctic hiker" look of satiny puffer jackets or the Indiana Jones look of khaki anoraks or trekker jackets. And it IS NOT politically incorrect as with furry things (Though, you could add a faux fur collar if you wanted to add a touch of va-voom or shi-shi style to this... say, for a classical concert downtown or something.) This was not a gift and I am not being paid for this admittedly rave review. I don't know anyone associated with Woolrich or this product. I'm just delighted to have such a useful, attractive and top quality jacket made from top-quality materials. I did not get it on sale, but still consider it a good value as I know I'll wear it to death.

It's great, but...
By TCG

This jacket has a lot going for it, but I feel it lacks two important things: shorter sleeves (why no Petite sizes?), and a smooth lining. Wool is scratchy to begin with, so any skin coming in contact with it makes it uncomfortable. Most importantly, if you're wearing a corduroy or wool top, or any other material with a nap, it's hard to slide your arms into the sleeves. A polyester or acetate lining would make it perfect.
Classic and cuddly
By Business Barb

I have not bought clothes in years so am building a smaller new wardrobe of the classic best I can find that will fit a range of casual, business casual and professional work. I am 5'4" 125# and used other reviewer comments to base my decision of buying two in medium and I am thrilled. They both go well with jeans in the North country(not for hiking!) and yet look very classy in the office with dress pants and jewelry. The photos are a bit brighter than the slightly darker pine green one and the slightly more muted blue one so adjust your expectations ever so slightly and you will not be dissappointed. I cannot believe how soft and light these jackets are. They feel so good to wear!

Traditional Jacket
By Woolrich fan

An old fashioned wool jacket. Goes great with most earth tones. The wool is a little scratchy, but then it is a very warm jacket so it is mostly worn in cold weather over long sleeves. An easy on, easy off jacket. Am using it a lot for cold walks in the lower Sierra foothills.

Beautiful!
By Red Ruth
from Vesper, WI
I wear plus sizes 18 to 20 or XXL. The jacket was a perfect fit and quite flattering. I was expecting a heavy weight wool jacket that I would wear outdoors on cold fall days. The wool is lighter weight, yet still subtantial, so I've decided to use it as a warm indoor, causual wear jacket at work. The blue color is not as vibrant as shown in the catalog and website. I think the more muted colors are beautiful. I've worn it with a turtleneck and am not bothered with that itchy wool feeling.
Great jacket! Goes with so many things.

Overall it's a great jacket. I was looking for something unlined and I loved the bright blue stripes pictured in the catalog and online. Unfortunately, I sent it back as the color was a very dark blue/green. It is a great fitting jacket.

I decided to exchange the XS for a S since for this investment I wanted a better fit. I will need to get the sleeves shortened, though. Bottom line, you may need to get alterations if you're a petite size. But like I said before, it's a unique, pretty design and the wool is comfortable.

Pretty fall colors
The dark pine stripe colors are perfect for fall and the jacket is of high quality. This is one of the smaller fitting items I have bought from Woolrich, though, as the XS is a little snug around the hips. But it fits fine otherwise, and I can't go up a size since I am short and the sleeves would be too long. I will keep it since it's unique and I always fall (no pun intended) for multi-colored clothing and jewelry.
