I wanted a vest to layer under my coats & jackets. I decided to try this vest because of its classic design. I have also decided to "re-discover" wool, and oddly enough, I have never purchased a Woolrich product until now. Both the style and the wool fabric made this vest appealing to me. Besides the look of the vest, this vest is warm. Here is an example that may help: I wore a short sleeve t-shirt under this vest while wearing my bomber style jacket that has a quilted lining on a 10 degree day. I was out for about 30 minutes and I stayed warm. The front is fastened with snaps, which I now believe is a very convenient feature for easy on/off. The length of the Large feels just right for my torso though I seem to be on the cusp between L & XL with a chest around 45-46in. I do have a bit of a belly that makes it a bit tight in the middle but not terribly (that is MY problem and should not reflect poorly on the vest). The overall fit is acceptable. The back length extends a bit past my bomber style jacket. There is also a generous zippered inside pocket that I have used to keep my cell phone and reading glasses. There is also a clever little feature (a button hole) that allows those who use an ear piece to thread a thin cable to the inside pocket. So, for me, style, function and use add up to a very nice product. Though this vest is made in china, it appears Woolrich has done quality control on this product.

Good Woolrich quality all around, except the sizing. Large is WAY too large. When I called to check sizing, I was told the difference between sizes is 4 inches around the chest. So I decided to keep this Large vest and order a Medium so I could compare, and I'd happily pay the shipping to return one and get a refund on the other. Turns out there's no Medium available. I really like this vest - the wool exterior and the insulated soft satin lining make for very good winter wear. But not if it doesn't fit. Disappointed. I'd recommend this to a friend, but only if they can get the right size!

A Vest should fit rather snug so as to lend itself to layering. While sized as large, this vest was, in fact, sized extra large. I sent it back as defective.

I got this looking for another vest, but saw this and went with it instead. And I am glad I did. It as a classic but functional look to it, and very warm. I have used the vest on camping trips and on nights out on the town and it works for both occasions.

It blocks the wind great and will pair well with a heavy sweater or flannel shirt. The snaps lock it place and stay that way. Great vest worth the money you pay for it.

Very nice wool vest. Mine is the slate, which is a grey. It goes well with both casual and casual-dressy. It has a flap in the back which makes it a bit more casual in appearance. It goes well with jeans, corduroys, or khakis.
The buttons are snaps. The side pockets are very roomy, but I would have minded a more traditional three pocket approach. the checkered inside pocket is okay but it is set a bit too low for convenience.
I believe the lining is a quilted nylon. It is soft and comfortable and holds in an amazing amount of heat. I would recommend this vest and would consider getting it in another color if it weren't so expensive. Maybe next year!

Great addition to any wardrobe. Works well with jeans and cords for a casual look, or dressed up with trouesers and/or jacket. VERY VERSATILE and just enough to keep away the chill when a lacket might be cumbersome.

The wool is too scratchy--no lining around neck, where it's most needed. The garment is over-priced.

Bought this for my husband for his birthday. He is a true XL with slightly ample waist. This vest fit perfectly ... roomy yet flatteringly tapered in a classic vest style. We both love it and I think it will get lots of wear! Color choices were all wonderful, but the brown chosen has worked out great.

The fit is on the small side through the chest/waist - had to return a Med. for a Large for my father-in-law who has always been a size 38 coat. He couldn't get the Med. size buttoned up, and he only weighs 160. Then the large is a bit too long, but fits better in the waist.

My husband wears this every day. He is a renal patient and needs the warmth and comfort. Thanks Woolrich for being right on the money.

Remember: wool does not have the give that stretchier fabrics do and order up a size for comfort.

Wife loves the way it looks on me. More comfortable than wearing a sweater when it is cool in the house or out and about.

One of the metal snaps broke after one month and can't be easily repaired--and my vendor no longer has it in stock. Because the vest is so expensive I would hesitate to recommend it.

Was a gift for my husband -- seems just like what the catalog and other customer reviews noted. Nice weight. He hasn't opened the gift yet, but I think it'll get a smile. He has had an old Woolrich vest for 20+ years that is so full of holes that I came back for a replacement.
