I use the mock's for layering during cold weather. This product is perfect.....light weight yet warm.

I love these shirts and have several. I'm always looking out for sales to replenish my stock. The weak point is where the cuff meets the sleeve. The sleeve has more material so the cloth has to be bunched up to sew into the cuff. It looks fine for a year or two, but every one of these shirts that I've discarded has been discarded because over time the fabric tears at this seam.

You might consider a mock turtleneck with a heavier cotton. I like the feel of this but for outdoor, cold, it might be too flexible and thin.
Also, make them in the United States.

I wear mock or reg turtle-neck shirts under a regular L/S buttton shirt in cool/cold weather. This one is not quite as heavy as others I have--making it more comfortable and easier to put the button shirt on over it.
